Aquatic programs are often used for treatment after an injury or when the body is weak after an illness or injury. Considered safer than many land based programs, it comes highly recommended as a addition to the overall treatment approach to rehabilitation and exercise. It improves flexibility and range of motion and strengthens and tones muscles without hurting vulnerable joints. When you exercise in water, you're working with buoyancy, not gravity. There is less compression (stress) with buoyancy, so you can do more for a longer time. Ten minutes of exercise in water equals about 30-45 minutes on land. And water's buoyancy can support up to about 90% of the body's weight for reduced impact and greater flexibility.
